rollinger, darling clementine

While I was in Denmark, I took a water-coloring class, taught by this funny old man name Ole. He told me, on the first day, that “rollinger” in Danish means ‘babes’, or ‘sweet little baby.’ Great, all the very, very, very good looking Danish men are going to think I am an infant when I introduce myself. Perfect. Now, for those that don’t know, Danish, Swedish and Norwegian are all very similar languages, so I wasn’t at all surprised when I came across these sweet little posters for children’s concerts by the Norwegian design firm, Darling Clementine. Charming, eh?

(The top one is my favorite; all images from Darling Clementine)

Birthday Wishes…

April 2, 2010

Someome’s Mom got these for her birthday yesterday.

These notes used a blind impression ( no ink) on 100% cotton paper. It takes a beautiful impression. There hasn’t been any ink on the press all week- we have been doing a lot of scoring blind impression (which are my favorite, I love simple things).

I am Just One Woman

March 29, 2010

March has flown by. My plates have arrived and have been lovingly pressed into soft cotton paper; only letterpress can make my heart pitter-patter like this. There is so, very, very much to do and I am only one woman. The good news is that the website is up. The bad news is that it needs loads of work. Not to mention, I need to fire my photographer. I cannot seem to get a good photo of so many things! The journals turned out great, but I haven’t been able to get a good photo of them yet. The light hasn’t been great around here lately; I need some super sunny Seattle weather and soon!

The website is http://www.tuttalou.com

Take a gander, if you like. Please don’t try to buy anything yet- Still working on accepting credit cards!

The Etsy store should be in action by the end of the week (Tutta Lou Press). There will be many more items added to both sites over the course of the next few weeks, but then again, I am only one woman.

Also very exciting news- There are some very awesome ladies in the adjacent studio spaces and we are planning an Art Walk/Meet the Press Party on May 1st. Watch for more news on that!

Be sure to check back on Monday- We will be having our first Give Away, as promised!

Please leave me your comments on the website too!

XO!

More on the Press

March 6, 2010

With the press, there is much to learn. Luckly, I am a research junkie. I get on a topic of interest and I will read anything and everything about it.  Here are a few photos of the press- problems, solutions, and just plain fun. (I am turning into one of those bloggers who only post photos of their cat press..)

Chandler, looking so sad with out his ink disk

Chandler think this is his best side, so I thought I would show it here.

Painting the fly wheel last week (They have better spray paint colors at Fred Myer than they do Lowes, which I discovered after the fact).

Here is the coveted ink disk when it arrived.  Very gross. I used navel jelly to clean the rust off of it. I know I have mentioned the press is very heavy, thus the disk itself weights 40+ pounds.

Once I got the ink disk installed, I could finally put on the new rollers I bought for the press. Then, finally, I inked up the press. It did this though. Did what, you say? You see how there is green all over the base (big square with gridlines)? There shouldn’t be any ink on it; the ink should only be on the two wood letters ‘S’ and ‘R’ to the left. This means that the roller are to close to the base. I used several layers of tape on the rails to raise the rollers. Sorry, no photo of this, yet.

Once that was done, I printed these!

letterpress cards, letterpress seattle, letterpress, custom letterpress

Not to bad for a beginner! These little cards where fun to make and I cannot wait until my polymer plates get here this week. I will be a printing maniac!

(Again, sorry for the crummy photos; the iphone tries very hard though.)

InkDisk!

March 1, 2010

green walls, ikea, butterfly chair, black and white,

Last week, I found an INK DISK in Californa and it shipped this morning! I told my dad if I didn’t find one by Wednesday of last week, I was going to have one made (not that I had much of a clue how to go about that…fake it until you make it!). I think 50 people in ZOKA saw my Happy Dance, not once, but twice when I got the phone call. {lucky them!}

In the spirit of not doing anything but printing when the disk gets here, I painted the flywheel a glossy blue. It looks awesome! The paint makes the press look new, which is completely odd considering it is 84 years old!

I found this image posted on Poppytalk tonight. Anyone else think it looks strangely like my living room? White, Black, neutrals and GREEN?

For once, I won’t promise to blog more. It’s my party blog and I can cry write if I want too.
