Happiness Project: Art Walk!

Art walk! On May first, myself and several other artist, brewers and musicians got together for the first Central District Art Walk. It was such a hit, that we thought we should do it once a month! The next one is this Saturday from 12-5pm. Would love to see each of you there and show you how the press works.

Happiness Project: Studio Tour

I love my studio, when it is warm! When it was cold and yuck outside, I would remind myself about how great of a place it was going to be when summer came. Now that summer should be here, the studio doesn’t have the appeal it should!

This week, I will be printing a baby cards and getting ready for the Second Saturday Art Walk (the first one was loads of fun, I’ll put up pictures tomorrow).

It’s a Sign!

{Note: In April, I started and finished this post. It was quite long in the end. I went into detail about how I made the sign, had images for each step, a compelete DIY tutorial, because a sign like this could be used for weddings, parties, etc. and I thought it would be fun to share. But right after my last proof, WordPress, ATE my gigainitic post. This is one of the reasons why I didn’t blog for eight weeks; the whole thing really peeved me. Here is all that was recovered.}

I am cheap. There, I said it.

Even before I found Chandler, I was thinking about sign types and sign uses for the press. Your typical A-board sign is expesnive to have made and well, it is hard to stand out with one- because they are all more or less the same. I have thrown around a few clever ideas, but in the end, all of my ‘fun’ ideas are expensive too! The other problem that I keep running into, is how to afford not one, but two signs. I think it would be nice to have a taller one (3′ or so) for placement on corners and then a small one to indicate ‘I am right here’ when a pedestrian/cyclist passes. So the other day, mid-converstion with a stranger, I came up with an idea, one of those ideas that stops you mid-sentance….

Make an A-board sign out of some picture frames! I have had these since college; they probably came from a yard sale or a dumpster.

Happiness Project: Sunshine, incidental.

Well hello there, sunshine! Seattle turn sunny today. I got a suprise visit from my brother and his girlfriend last night. This morning we checked out the new Georgetown market. I think it will eventually be the best one in Seattle (I feel like I am cheating on the Ballard Market when I say that!). They have loads of room for expansion and offer farm fresh produce, arts, crafts, eat-me-now vendors, live music and a flea market! A very swell mix if you ask me. We parked the car right in front of Belle & Wissel. I thought that they might be a press, but it looks like they are a very cool design firm. I spent 30 minute on their website this afternoon…

Other fun things that happened under the sunny sky: the world’s best sandwiches, bike rides, and the beach.

Looks the like the evening will be bring a bout of generosity.

Happiness Project

There is a book out, called the Happiness Project. I haven’t read it not am I here to reccomend it. Though, this past week, the phrase “Happiness Project” has been floating through my mind. A dear friend of mine is on a quest to “figure out the rest of her life,” when she really wants is adventure. I have been moping about my loathed apartment, again. Wondering how it is that after nearly 11 months, I still don’t have permeante work. This morning, when I opened the fridge, grandma’s jam came flying out and shattered on the floor. Why couldn’t have been the crapy jam from Safeway? For some reason, nothing seems to be going right this week.

So next week, we are celebrating the Happiness Project, right here. Things that make us Happy when everything this else is wrong. Besides, it is better to focus on the positive, rather than the bad.

First up: Muslin

I love the stuff. It is cheap, utilitarian, workable. It is popular again; people seem to be having a love affair with simple materials, but I have been loving them for years.

Here is a sneak peak of my most recent project (being released next week). It includes a muslin bag! I made 10 of these in less than an hour. Make one today!

While I was in Denmark, I took a water-coloring class, taught by this funny old man name Ole. He told me, on the first day, that “rollinger” in Danish means ‘babes’, or ‘sweet little baby.’ Great, all the very, very, very good looking Danish men are going to think I am an infant when I introduce myself. Perfect. Now, for those that don’t know, Danish, Swedish and Norwegian are all very similar languages, so I wasn’t at all surprised when I came across these sweet little posters for children’s concerts by the Norwegian design firm, Darling Clementine. Charming, eh?
